While many cities stood behind the Air Force base’s bid wanting to keep the base operational, El Mirage voiced its opinion against the facility. As a result of all of this, in 2009 when Luke Air Force Base was bidding to get the new F-35 fighter jets, El Mirage was an outlier among local cities. Ultimately, nothing would be built on the land largely due to the concerns from Luke AFB. to fight the land use disputes, arguing that the base had known about the land acquisitions leading to the redevelopment plans and could have raised concerns before it spent the money purchasing land and making deals with companies. City officials travelled to Washington D.C. Once again officials from Luke Air Force Base and other government officials began to raise concerns and turn public opinion against the project. This was all planned only five miles north from the Air Force base’s runway. A spring trading baseball stadium, medical center, and auto mall were also pitched for the area. The city planned to build more housing but its centerpiece of the plan was a $20 million resort and convention center, along with a golf course. In the early eighties, El Mirage announced its plans for economic redevelopment. The lawsuit failed, but prompted the cities of Glendale and Goodyear to work together to buy land surrounding the base to stop any further annexations. Immediately following this announcement Attorney General Bruce Babbitt, sued in an attempt to undo this annexation due to its proximity to Luke Air Force Base. So it makes since the owners of this El Mirage gym are avoiding us and making things complicated.El Mirage is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States. He informed us to cancel with the original gym. He tried that, but the guy at the gym here in WA said he couldn't cancel because his gym would take the hit. Also a good point to make is when my husband tried to call and cancel they told him to go to any Anytime Fitness and cancel his membership that way. So beware, if you move, you'll still be paying them in more ways then one. So with all that said, my husband is now receiving phone calls from anytime fitness for what sounds like collections! We are shocked, laughing and pissed. They stated they could only give us one month at the current time. The reimbursement was paid for only one month, in cash with a hand written note. ![]() My husband tried a few more times to get a hold of someone and when he did they said they would reimburse us for the two canceled months we paid for. We contacted our bank to put an end to the deductions. We fianlly got a hold of someone who said the memberbsip had been cancelled but for 2 months the money was still automatically being deducted from our account. ![]() Cancelling the membership has been impossible. When we lived in Surprise, AZ my husband went to this gym.
